I just came from a tech seminar and the Microsoft guy! gave us a demo of IE8 Beta 1. He mentioned that Beta 2 will be out around the end of this month! I saw some really really nice features...that I hope are included in the WM 7 ver. the security was good....if we all remember Office 2003 and the smart tags! IE8 has "action" tags...this would be great in a mobile version of IE.

Plus he mentioned that IE 8 is built on standardization....and there is a emulate button...that will emulate a website as if you are viewing it in IE7> I have not really took the time nor had the time to read up on IE 8 .......but I sure hope they incorporate many of the features into the new mobile version of IE.

 I applied for a beta of 8 somewhere, hopefully I get to play with it. and hopefully they finally bridge the gap that has existed between browsers and devices, It would be good to get to the point where you never had those situations of "I'll have to check out that when I get to home/ the office" because of some issue. Cant wait for 7.

 I have read that Microsoft are currently working on IE6 for the Windows Mobiles.

This will be the full blown version of IE6 rather than the mobile version which we have currently.

Exactly - Back in April, at CTIA, quite a bit of information was released about the new version of Internet Explorer Mobile at the same time that WM 6.1 was announced, so I think it was easy to miss it. Interestingly, IE was given higher billing than 6.1 in the press release, so I have a sense that this is going to be something big, and hopefully very, very good. Obviously, with all the competition in the browser market, I would expect some major advances in the IE experience. I pulled a description of the new browser from the April press release:

"The new version of Internet Explorer Mobile adds the ability to easily view full-screen Web pages and multimedia on the Web with a smartphone. By taking advantage of Internet Explorer 6 technologies and supporting established and upcoming industry standards such as H.264, Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight, the updated Internet Explorer Mobile gives people a rich mobile Internet experience. The update will be available to mobile phone partners in the third quarter of 2008, with the first Windows Mobile phones using the new version expected to be available by the end of 2008."

Two clues to which OS will be able to run the new Windows Mobile IE:

1.  "The update" - Suggesting that this will not be for new mobiles only
2.  ETA = "third quarter of 2008" - WM7 is not expecting until the very end of this year

These two points would suggest that WM6.1 and/or WM6 will be getting the new browser and fairly soon.

There's not much of the third quarter of 2008 left. I hope we see WM7 soon.
