    Mobile-Friendly Banking

In a recent forum post, someone asked about mobile-friendly banking sites, and noted that that's a big consideration for some customers. I've been wondering about this too - I recently got an e-mail from Bank of America saying that they now had a mobile site. So, I thought I'd try to collect a few more mobile-friendly banking links in a list. Feel free to add!

    • Bank of America: http://www.bankofamerica.com/mobile
    • Barclays: http://www.barclays.mobi
    • Citibank: Citi Mobile downloadable app: https://web.da-us.citibank.com/cgi-bin/citifi/portal/ps/detail.do?BS_Id=CitiMobile
    • Wells Fargo: https://mobile.wellsfargo.com/ (See below for a workaround for Wells Fargo)
    • Wachovia: http://www.wachovia.com/mobile

    Re: Mobile-Friendly Banking

I have a Wells Fargo account and I've always been frustrated that I cannot use the Windows Mobile Explorer to access my accounts. The link above for Wells Fargo doesn't work but Wells Fargo has got a way to do this. From your PC, go to https://www.wellsfargo.com/mobile/ and you need to sign up to use their mobile service on your phone. You enter your mobile phone number - a text is sent to your phone with a verification number. You then enter this verification number on your PC and you will enable the mobile service. Once enabled you can then access all your accounts including transferring money between accounts. This link takes you through all the steps which just take a few minutes.

I dont know why the banks havent jumped all over this, i guess security.b

Our company had a similar thing in the works a few years ago, but a company got bought out and the project scrapped.

I don't know off the top of my head, any fully mobile banking services (There are the usually, "What is my balance" and recieve an sms, but as for web banking on your mobile) in australia.

It seems that you first have to sign up for this?

    Re: Mobile-Friendly Banking

Hi David, The Commonwealth Bank of Australia is developing mobile banking as we speak. I got an invite into their internal testing program set to kick off in August (I first enquired about mobile banking with them about a year ago). I'm tipping the beta cycle will last about as long as their standard Netbank betas - about 2-3 months. So, look to see CBA's mobile banking happen around November this year.

Not having Wells Fargo, I don't know, but AT&T marketing put this in a PP deck about mobile banking a few months ago.

Is this something we have to add to our glossary? - What's a PP deck?

Here in Scandinavia "Skandiabanken" has a great PDA portal (yes, they actually call it PDA):

    Re: Mobile-Friendly Banking

Well, I wouldn't use Windows Mobile's Internet Explorer for online banking just for the fact that it doesn't display the site in a friendly manner. I recommend trying Opera Mobile or Opera Mini. Both display sites the same as they appear on your desktop. This way navigating around sites is easier and makes online banking a lot less challenging on your mobile.

    Welcome Eltawil.

The Wells Fargo mobile option works well for me  (http://wf.com) - especially if I need to quickly transfer funds into my son's account while 'on-the-go' Crying

I guess it's difficult to say if that's an advantage or not then Smile

But yeah, it would be great if all banks had a mobile banking site as well. I am with Bank of Montreal, and they still don't have a mobile site. But as I said, using Opera Mobile/Mini did help in my case.

    That's true !!

But I hate giving the bank $10 to transfer automatically when I can do it myself. They REALLY don't need my $10.
