Confused [8-)] AT&T Fuze - how to remap the PTT button

had a couple of folks ask (and I'll admit I really want to know) how to remap the PTT button so I can set my own actions on push and hold actions (I'd like Camera and Communications Manager but others may want different things)

I know it's there to try and push folks to the AT&T PTT service but making folks who've decided they don't want to use it suffer the "Do you want to configure PTT" dialogue every time you hit it by mistake... not so good an experience

Re: AT&T Fuze - how to remap the PTT button

From a little research this is what I am getting:

"1) Delete the value, not the key, of HKLM\Services\PTT\Dll (was "PTTService.dll", will now be "") and soft reset.

    2) Run AE Button Plus, add the PTT button as a new key, and set its action."

AE Button Plus has a free trialware if you do not have it already, just run it in a search engine.  Hopefully this works out for you, repost if there is a problem and we'll find a different route, or hold out until we get some more suggestions in here.

You could also do this with a registry cab provisioning file.

If anyone is interested let me know.

the delete or the key and ability to map the button? or would it still need AEBplus?

would love to see an integrated solution rather that a hack and a 3rd party utility (that the customer then has to buy)

Re: AT&T Fuze - how to remap the PTT button

I'm using PHM Registry to enter the Registry, but I'm not able to drill down into the registry.  It shows the top keys  HKLM, HKCU, etc. but when I click on them it's not allowing me to drill down into the nodes.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

I use TotalCommander from Ghisler... really nice regedit tool.

Turns out there may be an easier solution... if you find the shortcut (.lnk files) for what you want as a short and a long PTT press then you just need to copy the file to \windows\Long_PTT.lnk and \windows\Short_PTT.lnk to re-map it (you can find the .lnk files for more applications in \windows\start\programs

Can't help but feel not including an out-of-the-box way to remap the PTT button is a bit lame and going to drive complaints. How many people use PTT vs how many could benefit from having the button mappable like any other hardware button?

I always use AEButton. It's easier, in my opinion, than changing the registry or editing files and works very well.

Thanks guys.........Using Total Command as the Registry Editor to get rid of the PTTServices.dll value and then remapping the button with AEButton worked great.
