Can't send email from Pop3 account on WM6.1

I just bought the HTC Touch Pro.  So far, I've had two serious problems.  I have read the KB and figure there's nothing I can do yet about the 8600107 error that means I can't sync to two different PCs (that stinks - I've been a Palm user for years and have never encountered this insanity before).

Problem two - when I set up my work email as a Pop3 account, everything I try as the outgoing server doesn't send.  I just get a message to check my settings.  I've checked with my IT department and all my settings are correct.  I've also tried turning on my Wi-Fi and using my home ISP to send.  No good.  Sprint can't help me either.

Is it the WM?  Or am I just nuts?

You'd think Sprint would've at least heard of it by now!  ;)

    Welcome to The Connection, SueOD.

Todd's solution should work for you and please let us know. The other thing to check is that you have selected 'outgoing server requires authentication' in your mail settings.

I looked at it, but it seems to be for Vista.  I run XP and therefore am using activesync 4.5, not Windows Device Manager.  Does that matter?

No it doesn't matter- I'm not sure why Vista and not XP is listed under supported operating systems (particularly since the article specifically mentions Activesync 4.5 right under it, which runs under XP but not Vista.)

With small patches like this or the DST fixes, I don't even bother with synching anyway- just download the .cab file version right to the device (or to your PC and then email it or copy it to the device when connected) and execute it right on the device.

Thanks.  I'll give it a try and let you know what happens!  You guys are wonderful. I may still return the device over the 86000107 error, though.
