Why do I need to register?
The forum supports anonymous contributions, but to
take advantage of all the features offered by the forum, such as posting
comments, setting your own avatar, tracking post counts, sending e-mail
messages to other users, sending private messages, accessing private forums,
and many others, you will need to have an account. It takes only a few seconds
to register.

How do I register?
To create an account you will need to visit the Join
page and complete the form for creating a new account. Here you will specify
details such as your sign-in name, e-mail address, and password.

I am already registered on Windows Mobile Training; what do I do?
If you already have an active account on Windows
Mobile® Training, you must register separately on the forum. You should register with the same e-mail
address and user information on the forum that you entered on Windows Mobile
Training. This allows us to offer you a customized experience on the forum.

I have a user name and password; how do I sign in?
After successfully registering you should have a
user name and password. You can then visit the Sign In page and enter your user
name and password to access the forum.

I already signed in; why do I get signed off automatically?
When signing in, if you do not check the Remember Me option you will be
automatically signed off after a certain period of inactivity, usually 20
minutes. If you would like the site to always sign you in automatically, please
check the Remember Me box.

I forgot my user name and/or password.
If you forgot your user name and/or password, you
can visit the Forgot Your Password page and have both your user name and a new
password e-mailed to you by entering the e-mail account you're registered with.
You will be sent a new password because we store your password encrypted and
have no way of retrieving the original value. Once you receive your user name
and new password, you can sign in and change your password.

What if I've registered but still cannot sign in?
If you've registered and can't sign in, check to
ensure you have a valid user name and password. If you are sure the user name
and password are valid but still can't sign in, either you may need account
activation or your account may be on hold. In this case it is best to contact an
Administrator or Moderator.

I've signed in before, but now I can't sign in.
First check to ensure your user name and password
are correct. If you still can't sign in, your account has either been put on
hold or deleted due to inactivity. Please contact an Administrator or Moderator.

What is a profile?
A profile is information about your account that
controls how you view information within the forum. This includes details about
posts you've contributed to; personal information you wish to share such as
your Web address; and settings that control how you interact with this site,
such as themes, time zone, and many more.

Why do I want to set my time zone?
Setting your time zone will enable the forum to
display all dates and time relative to your time zone.

How do I add signature to my post?
A signature is a message that is appended to the
end of any posts you make in the forum. You can edit your signature from your
User Profile page. This signature will then appear at the bottom of any
messages posted by you.

What is an avatar?
An avatar is a feature of the forum that allows for
an image to be displayed along with your posts.

How do I set my avatar?
You will see an avatar section when viewing your
profile. From here you can complete the form to name the avatar you wish to use,
either uploading an avatar or specifying a URL to your avatar. You will also
need to enable your avatar for it to be displayed with your posts.

How do I change the language?

The date format used to display any date
information can be configured from your User Profile page.

How do I turn off e-mail tracking?
E-mail tracking is a feature that will send e-mail
messages to you when threads that you are subscribed to change. You can turn
off all e-mail tracking globally from your User Profile page.

What are the other icons/avatars that show up next
to users?
There are many different icons that can show up
next to user names in the forum. Common examples are Administrators,
Moderators, and Mobile Pro. Other images may be displayed based on groups the
user belongs to.

Why am I required to sign in to post, view members,
or send e-mail messages to other users?
This is primarily to protect the privacy of users
who have shared their information and to prevent unwanted/unsolicited e-mail.

For security reasons, you may not change your user

How do I change my e-mail address?
Once signed in, you can change your private e-mail
address from your User Profile page.

What profile settings are required?
The only profile setting that is required is your
private e-mail address. This is the e-mail address that is used when you
subscribe to the forum, or when a forgotten user name/password is e-mailed. The
private e-mail address is never shared or displayed publicly. If you wish to
share an e-mail address publicly, use the Public E-Mail Address field. The remainder
of the profile settings are optional.

What if I don't want my name displayed in the
member lists?
You can set the option in your User Profile and
your name will not appear in any member listings, including the listing of who
is online.

When I view a forum, why don't I see any threads/posts?
A forum may not display any threads if there are no
threads in the forum or if filters on the forms have been applied and no
threads match the filter. An example of a filter is filtering to display
threads newer than a certain date, such as threads new in the past two weeks.

I just posted a message; why don't I see it?
A forum may or may not be moderated depending on
how the forum has been configured. After posting a message in a moderated forum
you may receive a message stating that the post is awaiting moderation. Once
the moderator(s) approve(s) your post, your post will become visible. The
moderators may choose to move, edit, or delete your post to ensure that the
post is topical to the current forum.

What is an announcement thread?
An announcement is a special post type that is
always displayed at the top of a topic for a configured amount of time. The
purpose of an announcement is to increase the visibility of certain topics.

What is a sticky thread?
A sticky thread is a special post type that sorts
to the top of a topic for a specified amount of time. A sticky thread is
similar to an announcement, except that an announcement is displayed separately
from other threads and usually does not allow replies.

What is a locked thread?
A locked thread is a special post type that does
not allow replies. Once a user locks a post or an Administrator/Moderator locks
a thread, no more posts are allowed.

Can I sort threads when viewing a topic?
Yes, you can sort threads by author, replies,
views, and last post. The default sort is to display the newest threads first
(last post descending). To sort, simply click the More Options button at the bottom of the screen and select your
desired sort order, and then click Apply.

What is the "RSS Available" icon at the
bottom of a page?
The RSS
Available icon is linked to the RSS feed for the topic. RSS is used to allow
other applications to subscribe to a topic's posts.

What is the red/green icon next to a user's name
when viewing a post?
This icon indicates the user's online status. A
green icon means the user has been active recently (usually within the last 15
minutes). A red icon means the user has not recently been active. You can hover
your mouse over this icon to see details about the user's past activity.

I can't access a topic I know exists.
If you are attempting to access a topic that you
have visited before, but now receive an error, there are two likely causes. The
first cause is that the topic you are attempting to access is private and you
are not signed in. The second cause is that the topic has been removed.

Posting
Can I use HTML?
Yes and no. You cannot type HTML directly into the
editor. If you are using Internet Explorer® the default editor for creating new
posts will be a rich-text editor that will automatically format posts using
HTML. If you post with a browser other than Internet Explorer a standard HTML
text box is used and BBCode can be used to mark up posts.

Can I add attachments to my posts?
Yes. However, a Moderator or Administrator must enable
this permission for users on a case-by-case basis.

What are emoticons?
Emoticons are graphical elements that can be added
within the body of a post to add emotions to the post. A common example is the
use of smilies. A complete set of predefined emoticons is available from the
post editor.

How do I post a new message?
You can post a new message in several ways. When
viewing a topic you should see a Create
a New Thread button. Clicking this button will take you to a form for
posting a message or ask you to sign in first. You must be signed in to post.

How do I reply to an existing post?
You can reply to an existing post using either the Reply or Quote buttons displayed with the post. If you do not see the Reply or Quote image buttons when viewing a post, either you do not have
permissions to reply or the post may not allow replies.

How do I edit my posts?
If an Administrator or Moderator has configured your
role to allow editing of posts, you will see an Edit button next to posts you have made. Clicking this button will
allow you to edit your post.

How do I delete my posts?
If an Administrator or Moderator has configured your
role to allow deleting posts, you will see a Delete button next to new posts you have made. If a post you have
made has one or more replies you will no longer be able to delete the post.

What if my post has words replaced with ***?
An Administrator may have specified a word filter
for posts. When word filters are enabled certain words that are deemed to be
offensive are filtered and replaced with the '*' character.

User Groups and Permissions
What are Permissions?
Permissions control what you are or are not allowed
to do while browsing the site. The permissions you are granted control all
aspects of your view within the forum. ALL
PERMISSIONS AND USER GROUPS ARE CONTROLLED AT THE SOLE DISCRETION OF A FORUM ADMINISTRATOR.

What are the different user groups?
- Administrator: An Administrator
is the highest permission level within the forum. By default, an Administrator
has full permissions to perform any action, such as moderating posts, approving
users, and so on.
- Moderator: A Moderator
is the second highest permission level within the forum. By default a Moderator
can perform any number of tasks within the forum. This includes approving
posts, moving posts, deleting posts, editing posts, or banning users. If you
have a problem, the best place to start is with a Moderator. Moderators belong
to varying groups configured by an Administrator.
- Small
Business Specialist: A Small Business Specialist has current Small
Business Retail certification from Windows Mobile® Training.
- Specialist: A
Specialist has current Specialist certification from Windows Mobile Training.
- Registered
WMT User: A Registered WMT User is a member who is also registered on
Windows Mobile Training.
- Registered User: A
Registered User is a member who has signed up with an e-mail address and password to access the site.
- Guest: A
Guest is a user who is not registered to use the site and may only read, but not
post, content.

What is a role or user group?
A user group, also known as a role, is a grouping
of users for the purpose of assigning permissions. In addition to common
permission assignment, a role can also be used to display an image for a user
in that role. Roles make the job of administering and moderating the site
easier because users can be assigned to roles and then permission applied based
on those roles.

Private Messages
What is a private message?
A private message is like e-mail within the forum.
You can send a private message to other users, and it will be visible only to
them. No private information, such as a private e-mail address, is ever
disclosed.
