Unnoficial Beta versions have been floating around the web for about a month now. I've not tried it yet but I've heard good things about it.

I've tried them, and if you look away from the bugs that makes it crash from time to time, I have to say it's a fantastic mobile web-browser... I've tried most of the WinMo browsers out there, I also have a iPod Touch with the over-hyped mobile Safari browser, and without being to biazed (being a Norwegian myself), I have to say Opera 9.5 is to-three years ahead of everyone else!

Because it's so buggy still, I've gone back to the 8.65 version, but can't wait for the final version of 9.5...

I'm using 8.65 on the Toshiba G910 at the moment and it's about as close to desktop surfing as you can get. It's most impressive.

I'm all over this one.  I love Opera 8.65, and I want Opera 9+ due to bookmark syncing.

Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta for Windows Mobile Available July 15

Over at the Opera Mobile Blog, there was promising news that a Beta release for the Opera Mobile 9.5 will be available on July 15.

We have some exciting news to share today. It's almost time to release Opera Mobile 9.5 for Windows Mobile to the world. We thank you for your patience and support as we make what we (and many others) believe is the best browser for mobile phones. A release testing phase is underway now and the target date for the first beta is July 15th. You will be able to download it from opera.com just like you would any other versions of Opera.

So who's gonna be among the first beta downloaders?

I have been using Opera Mobile 9.5 on the HTC Diamond and it is far superior to the iPhone Safari browser.  Zooming is a snap and full web page content is quickly reformatted to fit in the browser window.  Panning is effortless.  It is a leap ahead of any Windows Mobile browser on the market.  If you want to try it out and have a PPC/QVGA there are some posts on ppc-geeks and xda-developers which you can download it.  I've also tried it on an HTC Touch and the experience is just as good.

You can find the latest build here for your Tilt - forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=29733 - My Touch has WM 6.1 but works fine with the WM5/6 QVGA build. should be fine for your Tilt - Default browser remains IE.

Hmm - not sure that I am that impressed - the zoom in seems a bit of a pain and the text never becomes clear. Also instead of Zoom in , I clicked on Portrait Mode by mistake. When I switched it back to landscape Mode, I ended up with an upside screen and the only way to get it right was to exit and restart. Also inputting text doesn't always seem to work correctly. I tried to sign in to this forum - I have an email address with characters and numbers - for some reason it kept putting a space between my name and the numbers.

Maybe this is why, this is still a beta version?

I have to admit, I am completely sold with just this beta version. Double click to zoom in and out, the section you have zoomed into is automatically reformatted to fit all fit within the screen and the font is crystal clear. I'm using the default settings because i have tried the other combinations, yet the standard one works perfectly. My favourite feature is the fullscreen feature. there is sizeable semi-transparent button in the corner to unhide the address bar and the taskbar. The taskbar offers 5 buttons: Back, Favourites, Tab, HomePage and a Menu. The fact that the tabs are not always on show, as with other tabbed browsers frees a huge amount of screen space and keeps then just 2/3 clicks away. The only shortfall so far is the lack of visibility of embedded flash videos. The only bug for me is that I have to switch to XT9 for text input when using the HTC Touch keyboard, but as this is my favoured input I don't find that an obstacle.

OK Biomehanika - you made me give this another try - got signed in OK now - but I find the text still not crystal clear, but maybe it's just my eyes and I'm not being totally fair here. It seems to be that if there are different font sizes on the screen close together, the larger text is very clear but the small text is still slightly blurred.

Hi Laura, I have noticed a few occasions where the smaller fonts can appear a little too small for reading.

In Settings, Display, you can set the Minimum Font Size. I have just gone to page where the smaller font was almost too small to read. I have amended the minimum font size to medium and the smaller text is now legible.

I wonder if this will help?

Thanks Biomehanika - yes, that helps. Getting used to this now - it's a great way to access this forum on the TILT.

Here's a screen shot of how Opera 8.65 renders this site on the Toshiba G910. Sweet.
