I like to travel light. In 2006 I went to Hawaii with 2 bags. One bag had my clothes and such, and one backpack had my minimal professional camera equipment (DSLR, 18-200 VR lens, flash, batteries, charger, memory cards)... then I had one mini-USB cable, a USB AC adapter, USB car charger, i-mate JAMin with 2Gb SD card, stereo headphones, Bluetooth GPS reciever, and USB charging cable for the GPS.
The JAMin was my music, phone, email/text, and navigation device. Here I am using the headphones and iGuidance connected to GPS to find my way around Oahu:

While on the motorcycle one day I got a call inviting me to go surfing on the other side of the island. I couldn't make it in time, but met up at a flea market before dinner. All I had to do was enter the address into iGuidance in order to be directed to the proper meeting location.
I didn't feel at all hampered or tied down by my electronic devices. Since then having GPS built-in has lightened the load further, except that's not much use when you go to areas where the map data only shows one street in an entire City.
Which islands did you get to visit, Laura?
