LG posts Q2 results, 9.1% market share could make it #3

Having shipped 27.7 million cell phones in the last quarter, LG is now in a position to overtake Motorola as the world's number 3 cell phone maker. Some analysts, such as Goldman Sachs, believe this has already happened. It was only last quarter when LG passed Sony Ericsson to take over the number 4 position.

I wonder who the top 2 are? I'm guessing Nokia are number 1?

Interesting. I'm a little surprised at Samsung. I wonder where HTC fit in?

I think when it comes to Windows Mobile devices, HTC could be the #1 manufacturer.

That wouldn't suprise me, and if they're not - I imagine they soon will be. Maybe if I say enough nice things about them, they'll give me a free Advantage? Stick out tongue

HTC hold the largest marketshare for touchscreen Windows Mobile devices.

Last year they had 50% of the marketshare for all Windows Mobile devices, but this dropped to 30% due to Motorola and Samsung taking the lead away from them (It must be close though).

    1. Motorola
    2. Samsung
    3. HTC

Well I don't think Windows Mobile have to worry about Motorola anymore...at least for the time being. Motorola's handset devision seems to be struggling these days. Samsung on the other hand is still strong and is gaining popularity thanks to its latest touchscreen handsets.

Well its not hard to figure out why Samsung is the #2 cellular provider. Within its 11 year cellular history, Samsung has ship 150 million devices to the US alone. And by the end of this year they are looking to do another 30 million. LG is right there with Samsung and with Motorola falling by the waist side together with awesome products, South Korea's manufactures are just eating up the US market.

Re: LG posts Q2 results, 9.1% market share could make it #3

Engadget Mobile had an article about Samsung breaking the 150 million mark recently. My favorite quotes:

"By blanketing every corner of virtually every carrier in the American market, Samsung's mobile division has now laid claim to the rather lofty mark of 150 million handsets sold in the US market...

"Though glitzy, marketing-heavy efforts like the Instinct, Glyde, and BlackJack series get the better part of the spotlight, Samsung likely owes almost all of its success to its stunning effectiveness in getting series after series of carrier-customized, low-cost flips into customers' hands at a blistering pace..."

    True?

Interestingly, Samsung have a "cheap & nasty" reputation in the UK. I'd be interested to see what percentage of UK WM device sales Samsung holds. I bet it's well below that of HTC. That said, I bet Motorola are nowhere close either.

I think that this is something that they are definitely turning around at the moment though.

Their latest set of mobiles (non WinMo), since the D9, are now the choice of most people when looking for quality.

From a personal perspective the two Sammy's I had were great, one was a blackjack the other some slidy thingy. I know a lot of people who still turn their noses up at them though.
