For most folks using them they are tools to create income not spend it. I am guessing that is why they are recession proof. It would be like a capenter working without a hammer.

Infornation Technology will always be recession proof as a correctly configured infrastructure is needed to ensure that there are no financial plug holes within a business' enterprise model.

There is also trend this time around, where a large number of companies are allowing staff to work from home for percentage of the week, as well as finding ways to keep their mobile staff out on the road for longer, reducing their trips into the office just to work on their devices.

Consumer purchasing at this point is being lead by phones like iPhone and Blackberry because more regular people are also now starting to see what smartphones are capable of doing on a personal level now.  I personally am now getting about 50% of my customers asking about smartphones right off the bat.  I'm also in a very rural market, where advances in tech take a little longer to catch on.

Over the past 4 years now, the features available on Featurephones has gradually closed the gap between Cellphones and Smartphones. As consumers are beginning to not only accept, but to expect more from their phones, we are seeing a larger take-up and acceptance of the Smartphones, originally held exclusively for business users. This added to the steps taken by os builders and the 3rd party developers to create a more user friendly experience, has allowed more regular users to make that step into Smartphones.
