TCP provides transport functions, which ensures that the total amount of bytes sent is received correctly at the other end. UDP is an alternate transport that does not guarantee delivery. It is widely used for real-time voice and video transmissions where erroneous packets are not retransmitted. IP provides the routing mechanism. TCP/IP is a routable protocol, which means that all messages contain not only the address of the destination station, but the address of a destination network. This allows TCP/IP messages to be sent to multiple networks within an organization or around the world, hence its use in the worldwide Internet. Every client and server in a TCP/IP network requires an IP address, which is either permanently assigned or dynamically assigned at startup.
UDP User Datagram Protocol  Stateless internet protocol.
URL Uniform Resource Locator Defines the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web.
The first part of the address indicates what protocol to use, and the second part specifies the IP address or the domain name where the resource is located.
For example, the two URLs below point to two different files. The first specifies an executable file that should be fetched using the FTP protocol; the second specifies a Web page that should be fetched using the HTTP protocol:
    ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/stuff.exe
    http://www.microsoft.com/default.htm
VPN Virtual Private Network VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a private network that is configured within a public network. This is also called a "tunnel". To connect to the Enterprise Mobile network via a VPN connection, first connect to the internet then tunnel into the Enterprise Mobile network.

    Re: Looking for the Glossary?

Anyone thrilled with DTPT? That's ActiveSync's "Desktop Pass-through" mode where the device not only synchronizes data via USB connection to a computer, but it also gets Internet access courtesy of the computer's own Internet connection. Thus, a connected device's Messaging app can do e-mail and Internet Explorer Mobile can browse web pages courtesy of DTPT. DTPT can be denied if the right ports are not open, DTPT must use a point to point connection (no Internet Sharing), and you only use TCP/IP through DTPT not streaming data via UDP, you may find Layered Service Provider (LSP) configurations on a network kill DTPT... and there are other limitations.

    Re: Looking for the Glossary?

I use this all the time at my desk, but never knew it had an acronym! Thanks for the tip. DTPT works great for me, because I work with several phones regularly, but dont have enough SIMS for all. With DTPT, I can stil connect to data services without having to constantly switch the SIMS. Cool.
