You know, I never text on my phone. I've maybe done it once.

 I'm more of an email junkie! :)

The only time I text is when I'm at a conference, and am trying to make meetup/dinner plans with folks from foreign countries, who won't use anything but text messages.

Otherwise, it's all e-mail, all the time on my WM device.

I text when someone texts me first.  My cell phone provider charges me for incoming and outgoing texts, so I try to use it the least amount possible.   It is cheaper to pay for the occasional text than to pay for a plan.  But a data plan would really be beneficial for transmitting e-mail.

Some carriers include a certain amount of text messages with a data plan.

Usually only for practical purposes.  But if someone starts a text conversation with me it doesn't bother me to continue.

 Using SMS is very common in Norway, so yes, I do it quite frequently. 

 It's a nice way of sending off short, but important messages.

On a Windows Mobile phone with a number of e-mail accounts, MMS and SMS configured in seemingly the same application, what's the difference? I use them all interchangably, if anything the actual phone functionallity gets used less now days.

matt@conceptcomm.com can confirm that I am a text-aholic, texting is my perferred way of communication in a typical month averaging 3500 to 5000 texts. Short hand is a must!!!

WOW - I think that even beats my teenage son !

I find myself using text to quickly tell someone something,  which inevitably ends up in a text conversation that lasts longer and costs more than a phone call would have.
