user account broken?

    user account broken?

    So i signed up before,  entered my live ID, created an account while logged in with that live id.  restarted my computer and when i came to log back in.  my account seems to be gone?  or not assosiated with my live account,  basically i sign in at the top with the same live id as before, and it just has "Join" or " sign out"  so i click join and it still says my username and email is in use.  

     

    Any idea why it would dissasosiate itself?

     even weirder, i logged in with the same liveID and created this account that i am posting on now (for my username i took the space out of david c and added a .au on my email address). 

     

    So when i sign on with my live id, how does it know which connection user i am using?

    Hi, David. Welcome.

    We've noticed that the Live ID feature can be confusing at times. As long as you are always signing in with the same Live ID, our system should always "know" who you are - no matter how the details of your user account on the site might change. What might have happened is that you successfully logged into the site with Live ID, but then your specific account details were not saved the first time. That's why you might have been able to log in, yet didn't see the account details you entered. As long as your Live ID sign in works now, I think you should be good to go.

    I apologize for the issues. As we discussed, I've tied the two accounts together so you have access to your old posts and have deleted the extra account.

    Yeh. Andrea can fix this for you if you send her a PM, she was very helpful when this happened to me.

    Unfortunately, you need to log back in to ask for help, which means you create a new live account which ultimately will void your previous one.

    We should have a better way for locked out users to ask for help.

     

    Perhaps we could setup an alias, and this will forward on to designated people,  say several people who could then let the appropriate people know. I'd be happy to recieve these if you guys were implementing something like this.  

    Maybe something in the FAQs that relates to current users being locked out and they can fill out a form for help? Sure this leaves it a bit open, but i'm happy to wade through some bogus emails to help people in the future.

    Could you let me know what error message the two of you received when this happened? I want to try to track down the root cause so we can eliminate it, but without knowing the error, this is very difficult for me to do.

    Update - I have identified the circumstances that lead to this issue and have escalated the problem to our development team for the forum.

    I will post to this thread again once a fix is in place.

    I apologize for the inconvenience. 

    Apparently no matter how good your beta is, you still have bugs at the launch! :)

    Update -

    Mixed news.

    Good news - We have seemingly fixed the problem. The forum and the Windows Mobile Training site were only passing information unilaterally (i.e. the forum could tell if you started out as a Windows Mobile Training user, but if you registered for WMT AFTER registering to the forum, WMT didn't return the favor of telling the forum you had already signed up and wanted you to re-register).

    We have updated the logic on the server and the two sites are now properly keeping each other looped in about dual membership. I have tested this by creating several new accounts, first with forum, then with WMT and I'm not getting locked out (I did get locked out when I first tested this before the changes were made).

    Bad news - Anyone who set up a 2nd forum user ID still has two forum user IDs. Please send me a private message if this has happened to you and I will work with you to determine the best solution for fixing your individual account.

    If your ID isn't working, but you haven't created a 2nd user ID, log out of all Live ID applications, clear your cookies, and restart your browser. This should solve the problem.
