    Slow performance

Has anyone else noticed that the performance on a Vista machine (x86 or x64) is very bad?

Whenever i connect a device the PC literally crawls and I have to wait for it.

My workaround is that I have a VMWare installation with XP and connecting/syncing/browsing the device is pretty fast (like a normal XP installation).

I'm willing to help to solve this problem - I don't want to start a XP vs Vista thread.

So.... anyone else having similar problems?

    Re: Slow perfomance

Yep... it's more or less the same here. When I plug in a device, Vista hangs for a minute or so before it understands what happened.

Vista is painfully slow at some times, but at least it doesn't keep bluescreening like XP did.

I have a Vista 64 bit machine - when I connect or disconnect, the machine hangs for a few seconds, but once connected it is fine.

    Re: Slow perfomance

You mean you have this with Vista, as well??! Thought it was my laptop with XP. Now I'm starting to suspect it's my device. My TILT with wm6 takes F-O-R-E-V-E-R to start and complete a sync AND cpu usage on my laptop always goes to max (and putting another gig of RAM in it didn't change a thing). This doesn't happen with my Moto Q, which is running WM5. So, is WM6 the culprit here? Whatever it is, it's annoying and, frankly, i'm tired of it.

    Re: Slow perfomance

I get this with XP on any device, but only when i've just installed activesync and not done the recommended restart. Asi hate restarting, when im working on a new computer i always hit this one.  It works eventually but just freezes the whole machine.

This would lead me to believe that maybe you guys have a driver issue or software issue? Getting the same symptoms here with an improper install.  Have you tried re-installing AS or DC for vista

    Re: Slow perfomance

Welcome GreatDay - I think it's a Vista thing - and it's a hang of just maybe 10 seconds - I only really notice it when I am running out the house and I want to quickly disconnect my device , stop a few programs and lock my machine - this whole process takes about 30 seconds longer than on XP.

    Re: Slow perfomance

I got the same problem in Vista (since the beta).

As you know, ActiveSync no longer works in Vista. When I was in the era of XP, ActiveSync works fine and doesn't cause any slow down problem to my PC. (But the WM device still syncs like hanging there) Since the very first version of Device Center to the current version, it's a disease to my PC. Currently, there are no solutions to this problem.

Since I'm now using Exchange connnections, I just disabled the Device Center. This works fine for users like me: plugging the USB for charging only.

    Re: Slow perfomance

UPDATE: We've been in touch with the MS Mobility Experts Center about this issue and have a request for information from anyone experiencing this issue. To help diagnose the problem, please follow the steps below and PM or e-mail me directly. Who knows? We may be able to troubleshoot and resolve this issue for other users experiencing the same thing!

    • On the affected machine run the Microsoft MPSReport. This is a tool, which collect all important information about the machine. You can download the tool from this location:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd915706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE
    • Then we need to create a performance log.
Please start a sheduled perfmon log on affected machine and monitor the following objects: paging file, cache, process, processor, objects, physical disk, server, memory, system, thread and network interfaces.
    • Because we will expect a runtime of 1-2 minutes, I suggest as interval 1 second. Please limit the logfilesize to 250 MB and chose a binary logfile type!
    • Set 'Start a new log file' when a log file closes.
    • After starting the perfmon log is important to let the perfmon as long run as the problem is reproduced, so we could record the situation. Could you please capture 3 different performance logs.
    • We also need the information about the mobile device – model, OS version, build.
