    pre WM7: finger friendly software

Until we need to wait for Windows Mobile 7 ...

Thought I'd draw attention to something which will definitely continue increasing user awareness
(not only due to competition by iPhone, but had been addressed to and requested from Microsoft WM team long before):

"finger friendly" software on Windows Mobile devices with touchscreen,
i.e. software that does not stick to current system restrictions (scroll bar, X button, ... waste of screen space),
but tries to optimize available screen space by large button finger touch functionality for the whole application

The whole story started with GPS navigation software having evolved to most current specialists like:
    iGO
    http://www.igomyway.eu/
    Navigon Mobile Navigator
    (German) http://www.navigon.com/site/de/de/products/mobile_navigation/pda/screenshots

HTC took up the hype with
    HTC Home screen and
    HTC Touch Cube

    followed by
    Touch Commander
    http://www.touch-commander.com/

    and with more extended functionality:
    PointUI Home
    http://www.pointui.com/
    Spb Mobile Shell
    http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/

There are system enhancement tools like
    S2U2

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381588

Resco Keyboard Pro (with new skin)

    Spb Full Screen Keyboard

    Teksoft Fingertouch Keyboard
    http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=fingertouch
    Finger-Friendly Friends

I should definitely also mention touch optimized games like:
    Resco Sudoku Touch

Unless we have WM7 available ...
what more finger friendly apps did YOU find,
which do YOU like most and
    what would YOU expect ?

Re: pre WM7: finger friendly software

I have tried a few of these and didn't like any of them much - I have tried Finger-Friendly and Spb Full Screen Keyboard. If I have a lot of data to enter, I much prefer the stylus and I find these touch keyboards a bit frustrating. Mind you, I do find myself using my finger nail if I want to quickly do something on my device, and not bother with the stylus - bad habit, I think.

I rencently istalled a freeware program called HTC Home Customizer. It has made my today screen very finger touch friendly. Works real well on my 6800 so far.

I've used the scroll bar thickness settings to make the scroll bars more finger friendly. I believe they are in the FAQS section.

Although, for scrolling, the HTC advantage is awesome,   you tilt the device up and down and it will scroll for you, its fairly limited in what applications it will work with though.

Re: pre WM7: finger friendly software

I have not seen a (final) WM 6.1 device live already, just the videos and presentations available on the web.
... I guess you mean the new today screen switching functionality which obviously only has been implemented for SmartPhones (WM Standard), not for Pocket PC (WM Pro + Classic) - unfortunately.

Not sure why they decided to create this additional inconsistency, which even would fit better to Pocket PCs than to SmartPhones anyway.

To me, Windows Mobile team seems to have been focused on WM7 for much too long and just added this little bit of it in advance, kind of a teaser ;-)
