Opinions on Moto Q9c vs. Samsung ACE?

I'm considering both of these devices from Sprint.  Does anyone have a recommendation or advice on which is the better device?

    Welcome Katherine.

I have the Motorola Q which I really like, but have not had experience with the Ace which is the equivalent of the BlackJack.

Here are some reviews that might help.

On a quick comparison of "cons" for both of them around the web, i found what would make my descision easy, the samsung seems to be CDMA only.

Form factor of those samsungs is great though.  I've used a Q9h and i think they are way to wide.

Re: Opinions on Moto Q9c vs. Samsung ACE?

My review on the Samsung ACE is here.  It's 3 pages worth, so you'll know the device pretty intimately.  The weirdest bug with the ACE is the "E" key in the phone dialer.

I also had both the Motorola Q9h (unlocked GSM) and Q9m (Verizon).  They vary in features a bit.  Laura linked to the original Motorola Q. You don't want that one. The Q9c has GPS and a thumbwheel, while the Q9h didn't.  The Q9c on Sprint will also come with Instant messaging programs, Documents to Go (for editing Office/PDF documents), as well as the other Sprint OnDemand and Sprint TV apps.

The Q9 keyboard is also way better than the Samsung ACE... but the Q9 is bigger too.  So it's a trade off.

The Q9 is the one that is CDMA only.  The ACE is dual-mode CDMA and GSM, but the GSM part only supports 2 bands and GPRS.

    Hope that helps.

Here is a review of the Moto Q9c

I have the Moto Q9h - I like it though it is a bit on the large size in my hand - but I wouldn't want the keys much smaller. From Adam's review of the ACE (great review!) it looks like it also has decent size keys.

Thank you for the great information.  I read the reviews, and Adamz, your article was helpful.  I'll ponder this. I won't be traveling internationally and will be a heavy email user and general internet user.  Call quality is a factor as well.

I appreciate all of your responses.

If you are going to be a heavy email user, you might want to consider a device with a touchscreen or larger keyboard - WM6 Professional rather than Standard?

Laura, what other devices are touch screen and on the Sprint network?  I have to use Sprint due to coverage at my house and I definitely want a Windows Mobile device.  I don't care for the HTC Touch, and that's the only other PDA offered by Sprint.

I'm not familiar with the Sprint phones, but looking at their site they have the HTC Touch and the HTC Mogul - I believe the Mogul has a slide out keyboard and a touch screen.

I just think that if you are emailing a lot , then you might prefer the larger keyboard or the stylus. But you will then have a larger device.

Re: Opinions on Moto Q9c vs. Samsung ACE?

Yes, the Mogul is good too.  The other down side to the Mogul is that you really have to use two hands with the keyboard and it might become annoying to slide it out. But it is a more powerful/flexible device with GPS, WiFi, copy/paste support, and the option to install finger-friendly touch-screen apps.

The Q9 will be slightly easier to do one-handed emails, and much easier to do one-handed phone dialing. I'm not familiar enough with the Q9c, but the other Q9 versions came with VoiceSignal for voice dialing. If you're a big fan of Microsoft Voice Command, that might be an issue.

Honestly though, if your current device is doing okay, I might try to wait for some Windows Mobile 6.1 devices to appear.  The "Standard" non-touch screen version of Windows Mobile 6.1 is a big improvement.

According to these specs - the Motorla Q9c will have an update to WM6.1 available later this year.

Out of the 3 devices talked about here...I would recommend the Mogul....although I have tested all 3 devices....and Adamz review was dead on the money! great job! now the question in mind is......what kind of deal and price will you get on what ever device you decide on. I can help if need be.
