Notifications for own posts. Necessary?

    Notifications for own posts. Necessary?

Is it necessary to get an email notification for every time I post? I know it makes sense to have me notified for new posts in a thread I participated in, but does a user also need to be notified for posts that he/she created as well? I kind of find it redundant.

Yes - I also find this redundant - thanks for raising this issue.

Re: Notifications for own posts. Necessary?

Hi, everyone. I looked into this, and discovered there's no way to easily turn off notification for your own posts, while keeping the "Subscription" feature and the reply notification active. That doesn't mean it's not possible - just that I can't figure it out myself. We'll add this to the list of requested improvements and changes.

However, in the meantime, you could experiment with the filtering options in your e-mail client. I use Outlook on my desktop, and I was able to create a filter that looks for my name in the BODY of the message - that's probably the only way you could catch your own posts. Each e-mail notification seems to have "By [your exact display name]" right under the link to the post. I'm already successfully using filters to put all of my forum posts in their own folder, so it doesn't seem too bad to add another filter.

    Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

Not that big of a deal to me. It takes like a blink of an eye or a click of a mouse to delete the email. No worries.Yes

I can certainly delete the email quickly as well but that's not how system 'should' work. When you have a conversation face to face with someone and you say "hi, how are you?", he doesn't respond back by saying, "You said 'hi, how are you?' I am fine.".

No one wants to hear or read what he/she just said. What's the advantage behind that? It's just a waste of server processing time and email space. Maybe not to a high magnitude now, but it could be considerable over time with thousands of users.

Programmers take human interaction into account when developing web applications. And if this issue isn't a big deal for one person, it will certainly be a headache for another.

Doug - you are correct, it is easy to delete them but I think Ahmed has a really good point and we are going to look into this.

I keep hearing an email notification and I go to look and remember that it's only from me Sad
