Fox TV Interview: Scott Rockfeld on Windows Mobile

Scott Rockfeld, the group products manager for the Mobile Communications Business, recently appeared on the Fox Business Network to talk about "iPhone alternatives," including, of course, Windows Mobile! This was a fun and interesting interview where Scott summarized a number of competitive advantages we've debated about elsewhere on this forum: Device choice, worldwide availability, the huge software library, and awesome hardware such as the HTC Diamond and BlackJack II. Scott's concluding line in the piece: "Microsoft is here."

Nice Interview. Why in the world would you go on TV with windows mobile phones that are not even available in the US yet?

Is the US not part of the World Wide Market? Microsoft wants the Blackberry and Apple customers so they show equipment (on an American News Channel) that are not available. This is the problem. Microsoft is always behind and trying to play catch up. They are unsure of who there audience is. The Symbian platform is king in Europe and Asia. Is this the customer that Microsoft wants because that is where the newer equipment is being launched. The products need to get to market quicker. Microsoft needs to address software issues quicker (how many updates has apple put out?). The average American buyer didnt know they needed a smartphone until Apple told them they did. Microsoft needs to show what a REAL smartphone can do for them.

The real issue for lag in the markets is certification, by both the FCC and the carriers.  How many times this week have 6.1 updates on AT&T get pulled right after release for last minute tweaks because of phone issues?

Scott seems like a decent choice for a public speaker.
