    The Usability of Windows Mobile

I'm not gonna takeit long, I think all you know it but, once more I wanted to denote of the Usability of Windows Mobile.

Everyone knows how iPhone shaked the industry about, how a mobile phones user interface and usability can (or should?) be. i also owned an iPhone and used it about 3 months. Last month i traded it for a Samsung i780, because of its lack of functionality.

Well, maybe you''ll say: "So you also have seen that iPhone is just a popular toy, Windows Mobile is a tool". We should not forget that, if Microsoft wants to reach to larger percent, it has to make Windows Mobile more user friendly, more attractive and easy to use for everyone.

First of all, the UI is the number one affect that attracts people on the product, second the ease of use, and further the functionality. How do you think that Nokia is so successfull selling so much Symbian devices? And please, why do you still let the hardware vendors produce devices with so small amount of Ram?

Now I want to ask the core developer team of WM: "Will you really gonna make it happen this time? Not being sooo late, not being soo copycat, not releasing with lots of bugs and clumsy?"

    Thanks in advance,
    Ozkan

Re: The Usability of Windows Mobile

I think the usability of the iPhone is highly over rated.  Ever try to make a phone call on that while driving without looking at the screen?  Yeah, not usable at all.

I think the Symbian S60 usability is highly over rated as well.  I reviewd the Nokia N95, and there was a huge learning curve when getting to know the user interface.  Many things are a bit more difficult in Symbian S60 than they are in Windows Mobile.  Symbian S60 is definitely a very powerful operating system though.

What makes the iPhone successful in my opinion is its lack of features combined with Apple's marketing and "reality distortion field".  By removing things that any other smartphone has been able to do for years, the iPhone becomes "easy to learn" simply because there is less stuff that it can do and thus less to learn.  And with Apple's super attractive marketing spin, you get high sales.

After using the Touch Diamond's Touch FLO 3D, I have much greater appreciation for the Windows Mobile 6.1 usability on my HTC TyTN II.  With the TyTN II, I can navigate the whole device very quickly using just the keyboard... or the screen and hardware buttons with the keyboard closed... or the scrollwheel and thumb buttons on the side.  It's got much more flexibility for high usability in a variety of scenarios.  The Touch Diamond's flashy animated interface (as well as the iPhone's) require your undivided attention (hands and eyes) in order to interact with them.

But...  the Touch Diamond's interface is extremely attractive!  I can't stop picking it up and looking at it!

I agree so much with this - I have an iPhone that I never use - I tried to use it as my main phone - one night my son and I were out to dinner and afterwards we went back to our separate cars - I wanted to quickly call him to remind him of something, but by the time I tried to slide to turn phone on, find my favorites, and then clicked slightly off such that I picked the wrong thing, put on my glasses to get out of the what I did - it was too late. At that point I switched back to my Moto Razr where I just flip it open and press 4.
