    DOJ:
Verizon must divest its assets in all of Vermont
How does selling up completely within an error allow for competition? Surely removing Verizon completey removes competion from their competitors?

    Wirelessweek.com:
Verizon Wireless announced a much larger acquisition last week, saying it has agreed to purchase Alltel Wireless for $5.9 billion. Should that deal go through, Verizon would become the country’s largest wireless carrier. That deal will also require approval from the DOJ and the FCC.
If a company outsizes all other competitors, as long it is regulated and does not outprice the competition, can it then be allowed to increase in size?

Yes, as long as there are at least 2 competing companies in a RSA/MSA that have 850MHz licences. When Alltel bought Western Wireless (Cellular One in 14 states), they had to sell the Cellular One licences and customer in Nebraska, Eastern Kansas, the Dakotas, and part of Idaho to someone to get approval, and US Cellular bought that. AT&T would probably be the winner of the divested markets of Rural Celluar, because they use GSM850 and 1900 in their towers.
